IIIF
- There is not any built-in method to prevent image downloads
- Can disable right-click. see here; can we do this conditionally?
- This Article on how you can get hi-res images from various sites, mentions that Stanford makes things particularly difficult by disabling the ability to download a full resolution image. But you can still right-click and download low res images. Need to check to see what stanford is doing to dissallow dowloading hi-res image
- GSU doesn't do anything fancy, they use a watermark
- Perhaps provide a download option and add a watermark just to the downloaded image.
Seems like the options are:
- Disable right-click on images--can we do this conditionally?
- Add a copyright notice
- Watermark images (I know we don't really want to do this)
- Restricting HTTP referrers and others from embedding your website’s assets (such as images) on other websites. This is sometimes known as hotlink protection.
- Monitor, Resolve, Takedown, using a service such as Pixsy
